Dear Brothers & Sisters, I am very pleased to report that Local 814 is making gains in all aspects of our local’s business. As you are aware, we are picketing and reclaiming our work Building by Building, Block by Block. We will not stop until all the substandard and non-union movers and furniture handlers understand that Teamsters Local 814 Moves New York and that we pay the prevailing wages and benefits set forth in the New York City metropolitan area. We plan to get all of our work back! I am very encouraged and pleased to say that we are working in areas that have been closed to us for long periods of time. Please take notice that if you have not been on a picket line or hand billed that you will be called upon soon. Do not forget that it is mandatory as state in our By-Laws. We have current negotiations with companies that will add new union book men to our rolls. They will, in turn, add numbers and will help our Welfare & Pension Funds. As a member of the Finance Committee for the Building and Construction Trades Council, I can assure you there is plenty of work to look forward to and Local 814 will be signing Project Labor Agreements ( PLA’s) that will eliminate the “phony” moving companies where the owners make all the money while the workers make next to nothing.
